In what's become a running theme this season, the Columbia Tigers gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They blew past Newberry 69-41 at home. The win was some much needed relief for Columbia as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Columbia's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was MARIAH COX, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of JOLENA GARDNER, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Newberry had strong showings from Sarah Beaulieu, who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds, and Brandy Whitfield, who scored 14 points along with four steals. That was a full 34.1% of Newberry's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Columbia's win bumped their record up to 12-10. As for Newberry, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbia's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Indians at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Fort White will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 464th, while the Tigers are ranked 152nd). As for Newberry, they will be playing at home against the Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Eastside is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
