The Aurora East Tomcats will take on the Belleville East Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Aurora East had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They blew past Fenton, posting a 54-20 win on the road.
Meanwhile, Belleville East was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Granite City 68-7 on the road. Given Belleville East's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 41st, while Granite City is ranked 386th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Belleville East can attribute much of their success to Armon Vinson, who threw for 168 yards and four touchdowns on only nine passes. Vinson is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Belleville East also got a significant boost from Chase Boyd, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.
Aurora East's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 6-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.0 points per game. As for Belleville East, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
