Morgan is 10-0 against Kopperl since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Morgan Eagles will head out on the road to square off against the Kopperl Eagles at 7:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Morgan has 15 straight wins, Kopperl has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Covington typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Morgan proved too difficult a challenge. They secured a 61-56 W over the Owls. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Morgan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Adrian Alonzo led the charge by scoring 29 points along with six assists and three steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Alonzo has scored at least a third of Morgan's points. Mark Anthony Garcia was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Kopperl came up short against Iredell on Friday and fell 61-54.
Morgan pushed their record up to 21-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Kopperl, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Morgan against Kopperl in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 55-24 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morgan since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
