The Summertown Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Spring Hill Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Summertown will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Thursday, Summertown made easy work of Giles County and carried off a 12-2 win. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Ryder Blackwood made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 games.
In other pitching news, Elijah Huckaba looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Cason Blackwood, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Quint Smith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Summertown hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive contests.
Spring Hill came out on top against Eagleville on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Raiders took their matchup against the Eagles 8-5.
Christian Huntzinger spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on nine hits.
On the hitting side, Spring Hill got a big performance out of Clay Robinson, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Robinson has become a key player for the Raiders: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 6-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gary Cox, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Summertown pushed their record up to 16-6 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Spring Hill, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-12.
Everything went Summertown's way against Spring Hill when the teams last played on Friday, as Summertown made off with a 7-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
