The Northview Knights will head out to challenge the South Vermillion Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. South Vermillion took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Northview, who comes in off a win.
Northview is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Shakamak on Thursday. The Knights blew past the Lakers 7-1. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Lakers: they've now won nine in a row.
Maggie Krause made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Finley Frazier was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Mackie Pell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Greencastle hit South Vermillion with a eight-run first inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats lost 12-2 to the Tiger Cubs. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.
South Vermillion saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rosie Travioli, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-5. As for South Vermillion, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Northview came out on top in a nail-biter against South Vermillion in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, sneaking past 6-5. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
