Softball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Jefferson Area's Winning Streak

Jefferson Area dropped their record down to 7-6 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the West Geauga Wolverines by a score of 5-4. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wolverines earlier this season, when they won 5-1.

Alaina Barress made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennidie Rogers, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

As for West Geauga, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games.

On West Geauga's side, Lely Percassi spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits. Percassi has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, West Geauga let Dayana Malone and Shaylynn Rogaski run wild. Malone went 3-for-5 with one home run and one double, while Rogaski went 4-for-5 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave Rogaski a new career-high. Ava Borz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Jefferson Area will take on Madison at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Streaks will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight. As for West Geauga, they will face off against South at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wolverines' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
