Basketball Recap: Parkland Comes Up Short

Parkland lost against Eastlake last Saturday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Parkland Matadors took a 54-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eastlake Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Matadors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 943rd, while the Falcons are ranked 274th).

When it comes to explaining why Parkland lost, don't look at Diego Castillo. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Castillo a new career-high in blocks (two). Another player making a difference was Jaiden White, who posted five points and six assists.

Eastlake found their leader in sophomore Tristan Anderson-Edmond, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds. Anderson-Edmond has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Braeden Quigley was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Parkland has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Eastlake, their win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

Parkland and Hanks will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on December 17th. As for Eastlake, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 52-40 loss against Del Valle on the 13th.
