Denver West hasn't had much luck against D'Evelyn recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cowboys are taking a road trip to square off against the Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. D'Evelyn took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Denver West, who comes in off a win.
Denver West will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 13 points two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Alameda on Friday. The Cowboys simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Pirates 59-6. Considering the Cowboys have won four matchups by more than 28 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Marcelo Ortiz and King Stancil were among the main playmakers for Denver West as the former rushed for 75 yards and three scores on only eight carries and the latter gained 83 total yards. Stancil didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack and made six total tackles.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Denver West was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 208 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Denver West didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Freddy Lucero and Jesus Acevedo. Denver West received some extra help from Pedro Jaramillo, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, D'Evelyn played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by The Classical Academy and fell 48-7. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while the Titans are ranked 37th).
Denver West will have to contain Wes Zuniga as he made an impact in D'Evelyn's last game. He rushed for 129 yards and one TD while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Zuniga was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 58 yards.
The victory made it two in a row for Denver West and bumps their season record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 13 points in those games. As for D'Evelyn, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-4.
Denver West suffered a grim 36-14 defeat to D'Evelyn in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Can the Cowboys avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
