The Sumner Spartans will challenge the Bonney Lake Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
If Sumner beats Bonney Lake with 12 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Spartans never let Bethel get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Bison: they've now won seven in a row.

Ashlyn Harlos made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anna Thweatt, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Riley Meyers was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one triple.
Bonney Lake never got on the board in their matchup last Wednesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against South Kitsap last Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Wolves. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Panthers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Morgan Berg was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kendell Thomas, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Bonney Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Bonney Lake's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Sumner, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Sumner's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Spartans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Bonney Lake, though, as they've been averaging only 0.5 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Sumner continue to outrun the ball?
Sumner suffered a grim 18-9 defeat to Bonney Lake when the teams last played back in April of 2022. Will the Spartans have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
