The Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Wausa with points to spare, taking the game 49-33. Given Elgin/Pope John's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Wausa is ranked 92nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elgin/Pope John can attribute much of their success to Keyera Eisenhauer, who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Ashlynne Charf, who scored 10 points.
Despite the loss, Wausa still got an impressive performance from Sienna West, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds. West scored a full 33.3% of Wausa's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Elgin/Pope John's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.7 points per game. As for Wausa, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.
Elgin/Pope John will head out on the road to face off against Elkhorn Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Elkhorn Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Saturday. As for Wausa, they will be playing at home against Gayville-Volin at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
