The Powdersville Patriots came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Southside 69-51. Given Powdersville's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Tigers are ranked 155th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Powdersville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaleel McGee out in front who scored 16 points along with three steals and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Sweet, who scored 16 points along with five assists and two steals.
Despite the loss, Southside still got an impressive performance from Jaden Johnson, who scored 32 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Johnson has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Angerrelle Gomes-Ramsey, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Powdersville is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. As for Southside, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Powdersville will square off against the Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wren is on a five-game streak of home wins, the Patriots a nine-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Southside, they will head out on the road to take on the Fury at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
