The Burbank Bulldogs were the 50-29 winner over the Brackenridge Eagles when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Burbank fell just short of Brackenridge by a score of 51-49. Burbank has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
Olivia De la cruz and Zara'nique Nealy certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. De la cruz dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Nealy scored ten points along with seven rebounds and six steals. De la cruz set a new season high mark in blocks with four. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Carter, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Brackenridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alasia Brown, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. That makes it 17 consecutive games in which Brown has scored at least 25% of Brackenridge's points. Another player making a difference was Sarah Arriaga, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Burbank's loss dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Brackenridge, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-12.
Burbank will be playing at home against Sam Houston at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Sam Houston is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. As for Brackenridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Alamo Heights at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Alamo Heights presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Brackenridge in Texas (Alamo Heights is ranked 243rd, while Brackenridge is ranked 651st).
