Gurdon is 0-6 against Woodlawn since May of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Go-Devils will be playing at home against the Bears at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Gurdon is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Poyen get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Wednesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Go-Devils as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Nate Newton was a standout: he scored a run while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Jonah Jester, who scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Gurdon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poyen only posted an OBP of .235.
Meanwhile, Woodlawn had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Miners with a sharp 11-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won 14 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Logan Clark and Tate Hall made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Clark struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Hall struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. At bat, Clark got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, while Hall went 1-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Woodlawn got a massive performance out of Garrett Weatherford, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits Weatherford has posted over his last eight contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Hollis Holderfield, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
