Marshall hasn't had much luck against Newton recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lions will welcome the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. The last three games Marshall has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Marshall is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of South Vermillion by a score of 18-17 on Friday. Even though they lost, the Lions' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 7.1 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Rylan Ramey stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Garrett Pugh, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Newton entered their tilt with Mt. Carmel on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Golden Aces get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. Eight seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The result came thanks to Drake Wolf's shutout, as he gave up just six hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Newton is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise.
At the plate, Quincy Fulton was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Newton is undefeated when Fulton posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise. Carson Barthelme was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Newton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Newton, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
