Basketball Recap: Aubrey Close Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Largo

Seminole won the last time they faced Largo and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Seminole Warhawks walked away with a 49-40 win over the Largo Packers.

Seminole's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aubrey Close led the charge by putting up 12 points and six steals. Close is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last ten games she's played. Emily Fekollari was another key player, going 8 of 13 on her way to 16 points along with five boards and five steals.

Seminole smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

Largo's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ana Leka, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Laiana McClinton, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 10 points and five rebounds.

Seminole now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Largo, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-6.

Seminole will take on Northeast at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Seminole is facing Northeast at the right time seeing as Northeast is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Largo, they and Clearwater will face off at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. The timing is sure in Clearwater's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Largo has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
