The Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks are taking a road trip to take on the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Spartans at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Things were looking good for Saratoga Springs after they put the first run on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bethlehem Central.
Jackie Cutting spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.
On the hitting side, Ava Goodman and Emily Ruscio did some serious damage despite the final result: Goodman got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Ruscio went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). They never let Albany get on the board and left with a 22-0 win on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Spartans with their most commanding win of the season.
Ava Yahoudy and Jessica Stusinski made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Yahoudy pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Stusinski struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Yahoudy has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Yahoudy went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Stusinski got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That's the most RBI Yahoudy has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Emily Martin and Grace Adone did most of the damage at the plate: Martin went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Adone went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Martin a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Dinon, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Saratoga Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
Saratoga Springs might still be hurting after the 12-6 defeat they got from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Blue Streaks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
