2A District 5 recap October 1, 2013
Indian Rocks Christian's Theo Anderson recorded the longest rushing play in 2A District 5 this season in his game against Shorecrest Prep last week. Anderson's team beat the Chargers as he sprinted for 88 yards on the play and finished with 154 in all.
Indian Rocks Christian moved up to 318 from 355 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Mark Buchanan's team climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Shorecrest Prep 48-7.
Keswick Christian's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Parker Holland threw for 167 and 2 touchdowns and Asher Thompson had 102 yards receiving. On the ground Josh Joy contributed 151 yards. TJ Muscarella helped Keswick Christian's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 55 yards.
The Crusaders' dynamic duo of Holland and Thompson proved to be unstoppable against Faith Christian, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Muscarella helped Keswick Christian's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 55 yards.
Joey Giardina was a passing and rushing force as Bradenton Christian lost to Calvary Christian. He completed 11 passes for 99 yards and also ran for 154 yards. Giardina's favorite target this week was Peyton Spencer, who caught 2 passes for 46 yards.
Carrollwood Day's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Patriots feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Taylor King has thrown for 978 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Michael Smith has 20 catches for 515 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Carrollwood Day takes on Canterbury. The Patriots' offense has recorded 150 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Crusaders have permitted only 33 on the year.
At the moment, the Golden Eagles are in second, while the Panthers are in fourth.
Cambridge Christian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 2A District 5. Earlier in the week, the Lancers triumphed over All Saints' Academy 56-0.
