The Palmetto Ridge Bears posted their closest win yet this season on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Fort Myers 50-48. Given Palmetto Ridge's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while Fort Myers is ranked 200th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Calven Charles, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Palmetto Ridge's points. Another player making a difference was Jeriah Muldrow, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Palmetto Ridge has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. As for Fort Myers, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Palmetto Ridge on the road again on Friday and play against Southeast at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th. The timing isn't great for Southeast: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Palmetto Ridge has snatched up seven consecutive wins on the road. As for Fort Myers, they will challenge Lely at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lely has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 209 points over their last three matches.
