Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Curtis Stinson Jr. of
Valley (West Des Moines) is the 2023-24 Iowa MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-4 junior guard led the Tigers to a 21-5 record and their second consecutive Class 4A state championship.
For the season, Stinson averaged 19.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest. He contributed a team-high 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists in a 63-59 victory over previously-unbeaten Kennedy (Cedar Rapids) in the state title game.
Stinson has led Valley to a 62-14 record in his three years in the program.

247Sports, Stinson holds offers from Iowa State, Missouri and Nebraska. His father was a two-time All-Big 12 selection at Iowa State before professional stints in Croatia, Greece, Mexico, Slovenia and the G League.
