The Mayfield Cardinals are taking a road trip to  take on the St. Mary Vikings  at 12:30  p.m.  on Thursday. Mayfield has given up an average of 9.5  runs per game this season, but Thursday's  game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mayfield came up short against  Ballard Memorial last Tuesday, falling  14-3. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Bombers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.
 Carson Price put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he  pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Price was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring a  run while going 2-for-3. He also  hit two  doubles, marking his first of the season.
 In other batting news,  Kyler Simpson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and  scored two  runs while going 2-for-3. He also  hit a  double, marking his first of the season.
Meanwhile, St. Mary scored first but ultimately less than Graves County in their  match on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of  5-4. The loss was the Vikings' first of the season.
  Luke Sims was cooking despite his team's loss,   going 3-for-4 with one  triple, one  run,  and one  double.
 Mayfield's record now sits at 3-5. As for St. Mary, their  loss was their first of the  season and  makes their record 9-1.
Thursday's   game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mayfield has hit smart this season,  having  averaged  an OBP of .431. However, it's not like St. Mary struggles in that department as   they've  averaged .512. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
 Mayfield suffered a grim  14-1 defeat to St. Mary  in their previous matchup  back in May of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their  defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
