4A Region IV District 26 recap October 8, 2013
Crockett scaled the state rankings by moving to 821 from 943 this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region IV District 26. The Cougars were able to move up by beating Travis 45-20.
Crockett made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,954 from 10,580. The advance stemmed from a 45-20 victory over the Rebels last week.
Travis' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jonathon Caldwell threw for 191 and 1 touchdown and Keiman Reynolds had 55 yards receiving. On the ground Eric Strait contributed 201 yards. Juan Garza helped Travis' passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 56 yards.
Strait provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Armando Jacinto's team fell to John Waugh's team. Strait's key target this week was Reynolds, who caught 3 passes for 55 yards.
Strait was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 201 yards as the Rebels lost to the Cougars. Teammate Vondell Hargrove added to the ground attack by rushing for 30 yards.
Travis' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rebels feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Caldwell has thrown for 1,336 yards and 15 touchdowns this season, while Johnny Williams has 27 catches for 468 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when McCallum takes on Crockett. As it stands, the Knights are in second, while the Cougars are in fourth.
Crockett led 4A Region IV District 26 in scoring this week after putting up 45 points on Travis.
