Arbor View and Cimarron-Memorial are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The Aggies will square off against the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
Arbor View will head out to face Cimarron-Memorial after giving up their first home loss of the season on Wednesday. The Aggies lost 73-47 to Mojave. While losing is never fun, the Aggies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Rattlers are ranked seventh).
Despite their loss, Arbor View saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Annesia Jackson, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Fares, who posted nine points.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cimarron-Memorial, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They really took it to Doral Academy Red Rock for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-30 win. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 games by 26 points or more this season.
Arbor View better focus on containing Kyrra Atkinson-Gray and Jasmine Ponce as the pair were huge in Cimarron-Memorial's win. Atkinson-Gray dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Ponce dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards. Atkinson-Gray has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 18 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kiera Kauhi, who earned ten points in addition to five boards and five steals.
Cimarron-Memorial smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.
Cimarron-Memorial has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points over those games. As for Arbor View, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-13.
Arbor View beat Cimarron-Memorial 70-58 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Will the Aggies repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
