Webber is 1-6 against Christopher since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Webber Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Christopher Bearcats at 6:15 p.m. Webber is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 58-21, which was the final score in Webber's tilt against Brownstown/St. Elmo last Friday. While losing is never fun, Webber can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 609th, while Brownstown/St. Elmo is ranked 269th).
Despite their defeat, Webber saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Mariah Anderson, who scored 6 points, was perhaps the best of all. Shayla Brumley was another key contributor, scoring 4 points.
Meanwhile, Christopher blew past Cobden, posting a 60-31 victory on the road.
Amiah Hargrove was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 38 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Christopher's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Londynn Pontious, who scored 6 points along with 10 rebounds.
Webber's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 1-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.3 points per game. As for Christopher, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Monday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Webber haven't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 0 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Christopher, though, as they've been averaging 12.1 per game. Given Webber's sizeable advantage in that area, Christopher will need to find a way to close that gap. Webber was dealt a bruising 55-23 loss at the hands of Christopher when the teams last played back in December of 2022. Thankfully for Webber, Jessica Gordon (who scored 15 points along with 4 steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
