The Southeast Career Tech Roadrunners will venture away from home to square off against the Green Valley Gators at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Southeast Career Tech has nine straight victories, Green Valley has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Southeast Career Tech barely beat Legacy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Roadrunners were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Longhorns on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Roadrunners, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Asa Briggs tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Nathan Johnson was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lucas Jaggers, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Southeast Career Tech was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Green Valley's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Basic on Wednesday.
Southeast Career Tech's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Green Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-15.
Green Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Southeast Career Tech has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Green Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Southeast Career Tech keep running through batters, or will the Gators buck the trend?
Southeast Career Tech suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Green Valley when the teams last played back in February. Can the Roadrunners avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
