West Suburban - Silver recap Oct. 16, 2012
Glenbard West extended the longest winning streak in West Suburban - Silver this week by beating York, 41-7. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Hinsdale Central suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after besting Downers Grove North. The Red Devils had been ranked 21st, but fell to 35.
Hinsdale Central's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brian Owens threw for 258 and three touchdowns and Joe Herr had 119 yards receiving. On the ground Stefani Steve chipped in 117 yards. Chase Hamilton helped Hinsdale Central's passing attack out by catching three balls for 70 yards.
Hinsdale Central's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Red Devils feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Owens has thrown for 1803 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while John Claussen has 25 catches for 474 yards. Jack Adams leads the league in rushing with 893 yards.
Going into this week's game against the Dukes, Rich Tarka's team's Owens needs 197 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Glenbard West takes on the Trojans. As it stands, Chad Hetlet's team is in first, while Downers Grove North is in fifth.
Oak Park-River Forest moved up to 90 from 191 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in West Suburban - Silver. The Huskies climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Morton 49-22.
