This season hasn't been kind to the O'Neal Falcons, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They took a serious blow against Freedom Christian Academy on Monday, falling 70-33. While losing is never fun, O'Neal can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 582nd, while Freedom Christian Academy is ranked 248th).
Several Falcons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Boyd Kenny, who scored eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunnar Adams, who scored seven points.
Karsten Swinney was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with five assists and four steals for Freedom Christian Academy. The game was Swinney's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Matt Bastos, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
O'Neal bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Freedom Christian Academy, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. O'Neal will take on Fayetteville Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fayetteville Christian is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak. As for Freedom Christian Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against HA Prep Academy at 7:00 p.m. HA Prep Academy comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
