The Discovery Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They suffered a rough 45-21 loss at the hands of McKeel Academy. Discovery was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as McKeel Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
McKeel Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nicaria McHellon led the charge by scoring 12 points along with 5 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which McHellon has scored at least 25% of McKeel Academy's points. Ava Anderson was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 3 steals.
Discovery has fallen quite a ways from their 17-5 record last season and are now at 1-4. As for McKeel Academy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-2.
Discovery will head out on the road to face off against Lakeland at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for McKeel Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Ridgeview Global Studies Academy at 6:30 p.m.
