The No. 2 overall prospect in high school basketball's Class of 2023 and first team Preseason MaxPreps All-America selection
D.J. Wagner of
Camden (N.J.) committed Monday to Kentucky.
The 6-foot-3 guard picked the Wildcats over Louisville, Memphis, Villanova and others. Wagner is the son of former high school and college basketball sensation Dajuan Wagner, who also played for current Kentucky head coach John Calipari during his tenure at Memphis.
Wagner earned first team MaxPreps Junior All-America honors last season after averaging 19.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.3 assists to guide the Panthers to a record of 31-2 and a trip to the Tournament of Champions title game.
Camden begins the season ranked No. 6 in the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25 under first-year head coach Maalik Wayns. Wagner sits at 1,477 career points and will look to join his father and grandfather in the 2,000-point club this season.
