Basketball Recap: Austin Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Austin had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They took down the Homewood Patriots 61-47. Given the Black Bears' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Patriots are ranked 99th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Austin pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.2 points per game. As for Homewood, they moved to 8-7 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Austin will take on Huntsville in a tournament on Thursday. Huntsville will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something Austin surely won't give up without a fight. As for Homewood, they will finish 2024 at home by hosting Jacksonville at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
