Hamburg and Starpoint are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hamburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Hamburg is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Williamsville East on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Flames by a score of 4-2.
Mackayla Musty and Emma Holst stepped up to the plate in a big way. Musty went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double, while Holst went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Starpoint). They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over Amherst Central on Tuesday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Starpoint let Matalyn Adamo and Jordan Duncan run wild. Adamo got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Duncan went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Duncan has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Remillard, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.
Starpoint's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Hamburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hamburg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .352. However, it's not like Starpoint struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hamburg couldn't quite finish off Starpoint when the teams last played two weeks ago and fell 5-3. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
