Donte Findeson had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries. Those 142 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Jeremy Douglas helped out on the ground, rushing for 100 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cardinal Gibbons was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 294 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Immaculata-La Salle only rushed for 139.
Another reason for the win was Cardinal Gibbons' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Joseph Cammarata and Peyton Barnell, who each picked up 0.5 sacks apiece. Alejandro Romay was another major factor on D, making ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Bolles humbled Pensacola Catholic with a 44-10 victory. The team accrued 42 points in the first half and coasted on those for the victory.
Bolles found their leader in sophomore Xander Edwards, who rushed for 165 yards and three scores on only 15 carries. Edwards really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run. Naeem Burroughs was another key player, picking up 121 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Bolles didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Simeon Caldwell and Jeremiah Moses. Another thorn in Pensacola Catholic's side was Asher Ghioto, who picked up two sacks and made five total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Cardinal Gibbons' record now sits at 10-3. As for Bolles, their record is now 12-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Cardinal Gibbons has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 374.5 total yards per game. However, it's not like Bolles struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 417 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Cardinal Gibbons strolled past Bolles when the teams last played back in December of 2020 by a score of 35-21. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Bulldogs' Kade Frew, who rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Chiefs to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
