Softball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Greene County's 14th in Last 17 Outings

Greene County had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Moss Point on Tuesday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Wildcats have won eight matchups by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Addie Tungett was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Erin Meadows, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, four RBI, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Shanna Johnson was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Greene County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Greene County has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Moss Point, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greene County will square off against Northeast Jones at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Moss Point, they will venture away from home to challenge Pass Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
