The Canby Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Clackamas Cavaliers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Canby has given up an average of 6.9 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Canby is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Sherwood just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 15-7 to the Bowmen. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cougars have suffered since April 8, 2025.
Canby got a massive performance out of Abi Troutman, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. That home run marked the first that Troutman has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Vissers, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
While Clackamas didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts on Tuesday as they made off with a 12-3 win. Considering the Cavaliers have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaden Rathjen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grace Manley, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. McKinlee Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with five stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Clackamas is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.8 runs. As for Canby, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canby hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .395. However, it's not like Clackamas struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Canby got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Clackamas by a conclusive 21-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
