Alamosa is 8-2 against Centauri since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mean Moose will face off against the Falcons at 10:00 a.m. Alamosa has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Montezuma-Cortez hit Alamosa with a seven-run second inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mean Moose lost 14-2 to the Panthers. The Mean Moose have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Alamosa saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Xavier Lujan, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Centauri hadn't done well against Pagosa Springs recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Falcons came out on top against the Pirates by a score of 8-4. The victory was some much needed relief for the Falcons as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Jace Haslett made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, Centauri let Parker Buhr and Kamryn Garcia run wild. Buhr went 4-for-5 with four runs and one triple, while Garcia went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most runs Buhr has posted since back in March. Leland Chacon was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Centauri kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Alamosa's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Centauri, their record is now 6-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Alamosa has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Centauri struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Alamosa couldn't quite finish off Centauri in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 17-15. Can the Mean Moose avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
