West Sierra recap November 13, 2013
Mendota extended the longest winning streak in West Sierra this week by beating Firebaugh, 43-12. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Aztecs.
Mendota scaled the state rankings by moving to 377 from 433 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Robert Mejia's team was able to move up by besting the Eagles 43-12.
Estevan Trejo threw for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Jordan Martinez made the biggest impact on defense this week as Firebaugh lost to the Aztecs. The 5-foot-9 junior recorded 1 fumble.
Trejo and Edgar Segura gave Mendota a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Juan Mendoza also contributed to the rushing game with 71 yards on the ground.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, william magnusson's team's Josh Allen and Martinez have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-3 quarterback Allen has thrown for 2,527 yards this season, while Martinez has 41 catches for 737 yards. The Aztecs' Segura leads the league in rushing yards with 2,494.
The top two teams in West Sierra will face off this week when first place Mendota takes on second place Firebaugh. Last week, Mendota topped the Eagles, while the Eagles lost to Mendota.
In 139 carries Izzac Suarez has put up 950 yards this year.
The Aztecs took down Firebaugh 43-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. Trejo ran for 28 yards during the win.
