The Strom Thurmond Rebels had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They took down Pelion 61-45. Given Strom Thurmond's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Pelion is ranked 279th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Strom Thurmond's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Darrian Hendrix, who scored 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Hendrix has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Roosevelt Walker, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Strom Thurmond pushed their record up to 15-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for Pelion, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-9.
Strom Thurmond will be playing in front of their home fans against Silver Bluff at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Pelion, they will head out on the road to take on Batesburg-Leesville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Batesburg-Leesville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
