The Gettysburg Warriors managed to keep up with the Northern York Polar Bears until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Gettysburg's tough 63-42 defeat to Northern York might stick with them for a while. It was the first time this season that Gettysburg let down their fans at home.
Gettysburg's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brady Heiser, who threw for 268 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Preston Burnett was another key contributor, rushing for 131 yards and two touchdowns.
Cole Bartram continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Northern York, rushing for 500 yards and nine touchdowns while picking up 10.4 yards per carry. Bartram was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 56 yards.
Gettysburg now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Northern York, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gettysburg will take on Susquehanna Township at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Northern York, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Mechanicsburg at 7:00 p.m. Mechanicsburg and Northern York are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
