Leake Academy found their leader in sophomore Sarah Prince, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 13 points along with five assists and four steals. That's the most steals Prince has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Marleigh Myers, who went 5 for 7 en route to 11 points.
Meanwhile, Lamar got the win against Wayne Academy on Tuesday by a conclusive 57-37. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while the Jaguars are ranked 214th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lamar's win came from a few key players Leake Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Aryah Grace, who went 8 of 18 on her way to 22 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Hart, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 17 points and five steals.
The victory made it two in a row for Lamar and bumps their season record up to 13-7. As for Leake Academy, they pushed their record up to 24-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight on the road.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's game: Leake Academy has made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having averaged 9 three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Lamar, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 three-pointers. Given Leake Academy's sizable advantage in that area, Lamar will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Leake Academy against Lamar in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 73-36 victory. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Grace, who went 9 for 22 on her way to 25 points and five rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Leake Academy still be able to contain Grace? There's only one way to find out.
