Hayden took a 50-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Emporia. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hayden in their matchups with Emporia: they've now lost four in a row.
Emporia was led to victory by River Peters and Sheldon Stewart. Peters scored 22 points, while Stewart scored 17 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The matchup was Peters' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Spellman, who scored 2 points.
Hayden's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Emporia, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Hayden will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Spring Hill at 11:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Spring Hill is ranked 214th, while Hayden is ranked 203rd). As for Emporia, they will head out on the road to face off against Trinity Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
