The Springville Red Devils will face off against the Spanish Fork Dons at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Springville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Springville's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over South Sevier. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Red Devils.
The team relied heavily on Kalia Sjoberg, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Spanish Fork faced Union in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Dons walked away with an 8-5 win over the Cougars. The victory continues a trend for the Dons in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won four in a row.
Paizley Boman made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other pitching news, Anaca Olsen tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Sydney Worthen was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Audrey Overturf, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Springville's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Spanish Fork, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6.
Springville got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March against Spanish Fork by a conclusive 17-7 score. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
