3A Region III District 24 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Stafford moved up to 822 from 857 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region III District 24. The Spartans climbed the ranks as a result of a 24-14 win over the Spartans.
Columbia took down Bay City 48-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. WILLIS JOHNSON threw for 70 yards and ran for 85 yards in the win.
The Roughnecks' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground BRODERICK THOMAS chipped in 111 yards. JERRY WAYNE COTTEN helped Columbia's passing attack out by catching two balls for 50 yards.
Columbia's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Roughnecks feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. JOHNSON has thrown for 226 yards and one touchdown this season, while JARIUS KESEE has eight catches for 103 yards. FLOYD BESS leads the league in rushing with 749 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Columbia takes on Stafford. Randy Lynch's team is in second place, while Bill Wilson's team is in fourth place.
The Spartans made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,804 from 9,361. The improvement came about via a 24-14 victory over Stafford last week.
