The Howland Tigers fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Lakers 48-43.
Howland's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Henry, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Henry scored a full 32.6% of Howland's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tj Douglas, who scored 12 points along with 5 rebounds.
Jeremy Ganska was the offensive standout of the game as he scored 14 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Mercyhurst Prep's points. Craig Buckner was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals.
Howland's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Mercyhurst Prep, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Howland will challenge Chaney at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mercyhurst Prep, they will head out on the road to face off against Harbor Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Harbor Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Saturday.
