The Weldon Chargers waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They had just enough and edged Wilson Prep out 48-46. That's another feather in the cap for Weldon, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Weldon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Briana Moody out in front who scored 14 points along with four blocks. Another player making a difference was Kamya Coles, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and four blocks.
Despite the loss, Wilson Prep saw an underclassman step up: Nakiya Boston scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Boston has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauryn Barbour, who scored 14 points.
Weldon's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Wilson Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Weldon will take on Hertford County at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Hertford County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday. As for Wilson Prep, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bertie at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bertie is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
