The Kennedy Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Bishop Alemany Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Kennedy gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 9-4 win over Highland. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Anais Perez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits.
At the plate, Melaney Velasco was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Alina Ortiz also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bishop Alemany, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Verdugo Hills on Wednesday, sneaking past 6-4. While the Warriors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Bishop Alemany also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kalie Peralta gave up just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. Peralta has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sienna Valadez was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Charlotte Riggen was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Kennedy pushed their record up to 2-3 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 14.5 runs. As for Bishop Alemany, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Kennedy skirted past Bishop Alemany 3-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2022. Does Kennedy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Bishop Alemany turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
