Hartford is 9-1 against Otter Valley since June of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Hurricanes will head out on the road to take on the Otters at 4:30 p.m. Otter Valley took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Hartford, who comes in off a win.
Hartford is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Vermont's top teams: Bellows Falls, who was ranked 14th at the time (Hartford was ranked 18th). The Hurricanes walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Terriers on Thursday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last eight times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Hartford saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hugh Wendling, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Solly Flores also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Otter Valley entered their matchup against Brattleboro on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Otters came up short against the Bears, falling 9-3.
Jacob Warrell put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3.
Otter Valley suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 5-4. As for Hartford, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hartford has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Otter Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Hartford was able to grind out a solid victory over Otter Valley in their previous matchup last Thursday, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hurricanes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
