Stevenson is 2-8 against Mundelein since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Patriots will welcome the Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Stevenson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over Glenbrook South. The victory was familiar territory for the Patriots, who have now won 20 matchups in a row.
Ava Potempa looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Maahi Patel and Jasmine Lucero did most of the damage at the plate: Patel went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Lucero went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Lucero has posted since back in April. Sophia Becker was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.
Stevenson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glenbrook South only posted an OBP of .318.
Meanwhile, Mundelein never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on Buffalo Grove with a sharp 6-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Bison: they've now won three in a row.
Not much got past Sophia Zepeda, who gave up just two hits and racked up 18 Ks to keep Buffalo Grove off the board.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kieley Tomas, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Stevenson's win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 27-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Mundelein, their win bumped their record up to 22-10.
Both Stevenson and Mundelein just can't seem to miss. The Patriots have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Mundelein struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Stevenson skirted past Mundelein 1-0 in their previous matchup back in May. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
