Highland extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 15-6-1. They were the clear victors by a 21-6 margin over the Bakersfield Christian Eagles. The Scots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Janaye Phillips was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jocelyn Dotson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Madalyn Gonzalez was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
As for Bakersfield Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-16-1. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.
On Bakersfield Christian's side, Maddison Misuraca and Bella Soliz stepped up to the plate in a big way. Misuraca went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs, while Soliz went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Soliz has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Vionne Chavez, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Highland will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Independence at 4:00 p.m. The Scots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Bakersfield Christian, they are taking a road trip to challenge Bakersfield at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Drillers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
