Texico is 8-2 against Raton since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wolverines will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Tigers at 12:30 p.m.
Back in February, Texico came up short against Muleshoe and fell 8-4.
Jesus Chavez made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Bowman, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Raton). They never let Mora get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Saturday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Rangers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Brayden Decker and Warren Berry made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Decker tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Berry struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). The dominant performance also gave Decker a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At the plate, Decker went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Berry got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Raton is undefeated when Berry posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, Brayden Tapia was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Azden Romero, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Raton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mora only managed two.
Raton now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Texico, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Texico suffered a grim 17-11 defeat to Raton in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
