Baseball Recap: Filer Comes Up Short

Filer had lost eight straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-13 to make it nine. They lost 21-11 to the Kimberly Bulldogs. That's two games in a row now that the Wildcats have lost by exactly ten runs.

Bridger Phillips put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Filer: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Brett Paxton was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. Aydyn Burns was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

As for Kimberly, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.3 runs.

On Kimberly's side, Gunner Stringham was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Stringham has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Dillon Chiatovich, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Filer will take on Gooding at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Kimberly, they will head out on the road to take on Buhl at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
