After a string of three wins, the Belleview Rattlers's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They lost to Lecanto at home by a decisive 49-34 margin. Belleview has not had much luck with Lecanto recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Belleview's loss came despite strong showings from Aaliyah Armbrister and Briyanna Miles. Armbrister dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Miles scored 15 points along with three steals. Armbrister has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Albanis Mogollon, who scored five points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Lecanto was led to victory by Ijyana Edwards and Bryleigh Florio. Edwards scored 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Florio scored 19 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Florio is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Emma Christensen, who scored six points.
Belleview's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Lecanto, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Belleview won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against West Port at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. West Port presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Belleview in Florida (West Port is ranked 124th, while Belleview is ranked 249th). Lecanto won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Nature Coast Tech at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Nature Coast Tech is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home.
